Marie-Doriane
Hi! My name is Marie-Doriane and I am 8 years old.
I live in a village called Gasalo, in Rwanda. Rwanda is in Africa.
This is my mum Liberat. Here she is going to work in the fields to look after our crops, she works really hard. Her job is important because she needs to sell the crops to have enough money to buy food and pay for us to go to school. Yummy! This lunch is made from onions, tomatoes, potatoes and green vegetables. Sometimes we have rice and cooked bananas instead.
What’s your favourite lunch?
I have a big family! There are eight of us in one house! Before CAFOD helped us, we did not have a house of our own. We had to leave our last house during the fighting in Rwanda, my dad was killed. It makes me sad to think of him. Our mum does all she can to make our home a happy one by sharing her love, her time and her care with us all. We have lots of fun times. My big sister Marie-Claire. She’s 13 and is very kind and thoughtful. She helps mum clean the house so she doesn’t get too tired. She loves going to school and her favourite subjects are English, French and maths. We also love to play games with our friends. This is my sister Marie-Louise, she’s 10. This is her playing a clapping game. Do you know any clapping games? I hope you enjoyed reading my story. Even though we live far apart we still belong to one world, and one family.
